Renowned sociologist and political economist Melinda Cooper will be visiting UCI in the first week of March. She will be conducting a three-part seminar and guided reading titled "Virginia School Neoliberalism and the Household Economy." The syllabus and readings are available at the link below. Please feel free to circulate the link; the seminar is open to any who are prepared to do the assigned reading in advance of each class.

Cooper graduated from the University of Paris VIII in 2001. Her research focuses on the broad areas of social studies of finance, neoliberalism and new social conservatisms. Her monograph Family Values: Between Neoliberalism and the New Social Conservatism, was published in Zone Book’s Near Futures series in 2017. She is currently working on two research projects. The first is an ARC-funded investigation into the politics of public debt with a particular focus on Virginia school public choice theory and supply-side economics. The second project focuses on the economic politics of the far-right. She is also involved in a collective research project on the asset economy, with Lisa Adkins and Martijn Konings, which is funded under the Faculty Strategic Research Theme initiative. She is associate editor of the Journal of Cultural Economy and (with Martijn Konings) of the Stanford University Press book series Currencies: New Thinking for Financial Times.
